Quotas At Harvard Law School

As pointed out in this post on Volokh, could someone explain to me why Harvard Law School’s determination to hire women, as described in detail here in the Harvard Crimson, do not amount to a rigid 50-50 quota?

Also worthy of note is an observation that occurs in several comments on the Volokh post: women are already much better represented on the Harvard Law faculty than conservatives.

As I’ve written a number of times (such as here and here), I don’t understand why people who support racial preferences claim they oppose quotas, since I can’t figure out what’s wrong with quotas that isn’t also true of racial preferences. Maybe the answer is that they don’t really oppose quotas.

Say What?
