Turnabout Is Fair Play

Regular readers will know that I have been very critical of how the mainstream media have presented the issues in the debate over the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative (MCRI).

Thus I am pleased, in a way, to report that two researchers from the University of Colorado who claim to have done an exhaustive study of the coverage, Michele Moses, an associate professor of education, and Laren Saenz, a doctoral student there in “educational foundations,” agree: the press, they write, has done a lousy job.

I believe their judgment on that is correct, even though they also believe something I most certainly do not: that decent press coverage, presenting all the evidence and reasoned argument that it should, would lead all reasonable voters to agree with their view that Proposition 209 was a disaster for California, that the need for “diversity” trumps the outmoded principle against racial discrimination, etc.

Say What?
