“Lincoln Democrats … Or McClellan Democrats?

E.J. Dionne hails what he regards as the coming triumph of “Lincoln Democrats,” Democrats who gain back in the North the seats they have lost in the South.

Interesting. Even more interesting, however, is the degree to which the modern Democratic Party sounds eerily like the peace-mongering Democrats of 1864. (HatTip for the latter to InstaPundit)

Some of you veterans (of DISCRIMINATIONS) may recall reading some similar points here.

In the article a notable focus is that business is looking to become more competitive by having the feds take over health insurance. In other words, the businesses want to shift the burden of health insurance from their accounts to the accounts of those Americans who actually pay significant taxes. Essentially, business wants to shift a burden from itself and its lower paid workers to its, and other entities, higher paid workers.

There is also the notable difference in social attitudes between the north and the south that tends to push northern Repubs and business types away from a more blatantly, sanctimoniously religous southern Republican party.
