“Overrepresented” White Berkeley Males

A group of white males at Berkeley think that at least some of them shouldn’t be there. They have organized to promote diversity, ordering T-shirts with “Overrepresented” printed on the front and “White male for diversity on the back.”

That is funny. Why doesn’t any of them quit so somebody else… more… “diverse”… might be able to get in? And notice there’s no mention of “Asians” in that article.

Classicla Liberal commitment to a cause. Support it with marching and shouting and T-shirts, but when it comes time to make a sacrifice, its someone elses responsibility.

They should all give up their spots to minorities if they truly believe in their cause.

People like this drive me wild. I have to believe the liberal propaganda of “rich white elitism,” but only to note that the rich white elitists are the kinds of people that perpetrate this kind of crap. The ones that suffer are middle and lower class whites that are in many respects in the same situation as many minorities.

    Blatant hypocrisy.

As I recall, Sacramento is little more than an hour away from Berkeley. These students should head to the Capitol and expend their energies protesting California’s terrible K-12 system.

No, the truly funny part is that white males at UCB are an underrepresented minority. Non-Hispanic whites are 46.7% of the CA population as of the 2000 Census, so they’re a “minority.” They are 34.4% of the announced 2004 admits, so they’re “underrepresented.” And white men are likely more severely “underrepresented” than white women are, because significantly more women than men go to college. For the UC system as a whole, 2004 admits are about 56% female, but I couldn’t find stats disaggregated by campus or ethnicity.

(Incidentally, the table I got the gender info from has a category for “Unknown/decline to state.” 335 applicants admitted in 2003, only 55 in 2004. A precipitous decline. What’s up with that?)

The ethnicity figures I used were from

    http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/2004/fall_2004_admissions_table_c.pdf

That excludes out-of-state and international students, and of course there are the “other” and “decline to state” ethnic categories, which together make up not quite 10% of the 2004 admits.

I hate the term “white male”. Can’t they just say white man? Or white boy? The former is more accurate (unless you’re under 18) and the latter is at least honest as invective.

Leftists use the term “male” instead of “man” because “male” doesn’t imply human.

“Angry White Males” Fight Back…Against Themselves

Okay, I don’t want to end the day with the “Evil Spiders Must Die” post, so here’s another political one. Via Discriminations, here’s a story about lack of “diversity” at UC Berkeley (what a shock). Check it out: Lack of…

John’s a leftist? The term “male” is useful as it includes minors – there are certainly college students who are under 18 – as well as adults. Why write out “men and boys” when a word exists which includes both?

Just another undergrad ploy to get laid… seem very “sensitive” and “socially conscious” and somehow the the babes flock to you. Or so it is sometimes believed.

According to John, “male” is what the t-shirt said. The fact that leftists use that word doesn’t mean the everyone who uses it is a leftist and I assume John used that word solely in reference to the shirt. Those on the left are very conscious of their word selection, since they seem to think that language is political. I have nothing against the word, in general, so non-leftists have my very gracious permission to use it at their discretion.

White male can also refer to: mice, horses, cats, dogs, stereo wires, electrical plugs, etc. It is not specific enough to describe humans. It is used by the Left as an insult.

I’m not sure that California is really part of the U.S. anymore, or even part of the same planet. Stories like this only reinforce this…

Where does one purchase one of these shirts?
