Colorado U. Republicans Come Out Of The Closet, Sponsor Bake Sale

A helpful reader sends word of interesting developments at the University of Colorado.

First, today they kicked off “Conservative Coming Out Month” with a ceremony this morning. As imaginatively envisioned:

A small group of social outcasts gather to comfort each other. One by one, they stand bravely to publicly embrace their lifestyle, one that most consider freakish and perverse. A lifestyle that can only be received with scorn, ridicule and prejudice.

“Hi. My name is Bob,” the timid 20-year-old says meekly.

“Hi Bob!” snaps back the supportive group.

Bob strains for courage, “And I, well, I am a conservative.”

The small crowd hoots with acceptance and support.

Bob chokes back tears, “I guess on some level, I have always known I was one. Oh yeah, just like the other kids, I would make jokes about Ronald Reagan being senile so my poly-sci professor wouldn’t fail me. I realized I was in denial when I took the paper cover off a Howard Zinn book and covered my Milton Friedman book with it just so my dorm-mates wouldn’t catch me. I felt so dirty and ashamed. Sometimes I listen to AM talk radio, but I always reset the dial to an NPR station so no one finds out. I knew in my heart that smaller government is OK. But I also knew I could never be accepted on a campus where every liberal arts professor preaches Noam Chomsky as gospel. Well I won’t lie to myself any longer. I’m, I’m a conservative, and I’m proud!”

Even more fun is promised for the Affirmative Action Bake Sale scheduled for Feb. 11. “The star salesmen of the bake sale will be state Sen. Ed Jones, a black legislator who is sponsoring a bill to end affirmative action in publicly funded higher ed.”

Meanwhile, the Rocky Mountain News today has a fair and balanced editorial that, with some qualifications, generally supports the Academic Bill of Rights legislation (House Bill 1315) recently introduced in the state legislature.

Bush is part anarchist: out to dismantle government.

We should privatize the universities. Look at Harvard, they seem to get by ok.

When W’s huge debt hits the fan, it’ll be back to the glory days of the 30s. At least college grads won’t have to bother looking for work since there will be none.
