Opposing Estrada Because He’s Hispanic (Cont.)

I’ve posted a coupla times on the Democrats opposing Miguel Estrada because he’s Hispanic (see here and here). In that regard, there is a quite interesting exchange reported in today’s Washington Post.

In his Saturday radio address, President Bush said Estrada would be the first Hispanic to serve on the D.C. Court of Appeals, that he’s eminently qualified, that his nomination has been hanging for 21 months, and that it’s time for a vote. Responding for the Democrats, Rep. Ciro D. Ridriguez (D-Tex), chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, said … more Latino nominees had been blocked by Republicans in the past.

It’s refreshing to see a Democrat admit, speaking officially for his party, that partisanship trumps race and ethnicity for everybody. Usually the Democrats maintain that race and ethnicity always trump everything.

Say What?
