USA Today Endorses 10% Plans, Blasts Civil Rights Commission

An editorial today in USA Today blasted the U.S. Civil Rights Commission’s irregular (because the Commissioners never voted on it) staff report that criticized the various Top X% alternatives to affirmative action in Florida, Texas, and California.

At first, said the editorial, the future of diversity looked bleak because voters and courts were bringing affirmative action to an end. “Now,” however,

just as creative new programs in California and Texas are causing a healthy resurgence in minority admissions, and Florida has started a similar program, the plans are being attacked by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, supposedly dedicated to causes that boost minority opportunities.
