More On Jefferson

A little over a week ago I posted, here, a link to my letter in the Charlottesville Daily Progress criticizing the recent decision of the Charlottesville City Council to stop celebrating Thomas Jefferson’s birthday.

Today the Daily Progress published a much more important letter on that decision, complete with a fascinating discussion of the Jefferson-Sally Hemmings controversy, by Robert F. Turner, a distinguished professor of international and national security law at the UVa law school. Professor Turner was chairman of the 2000-2001 scholarly commission that studied that controversy, and editor of its report.

Say What?
