The Charlottesville city council, no longer wanting to have anything to do with notorious slave holders, has just decreed that Jefferson’s birthday will no longer be a city holiday. I have just learned that the local paper, the Daily Progress, printed my letter about this last Sunday.

Opinion/Letter: Trump nailed prediction
Regarding the late unpleasantness in Charlottesville, President Trump stated in a press conference on Aug. 15, 2017: “So this week, it is Robert E. Lee. I noticed that Stonewall Jackson is coming down. … I wonder, is it George Washington next week? And is it Thomas Jefferson the week after?”
Now comes the Charlottesville City Council, which has just “abolished the celebration of Thomas Jefferson’s birthday” (“City nixes Jefferson’s birthday as holiday,” The Daily Progress, July 2).
I suspect President Trump will be pleased by this decision, since it makes him seem prescient and will probably strengthen his re-election campaign.
