Was Obama Joking About Torture?

“”One of the things that sets us apart from other countries,” President Obama recently told MSNBC, “is when we make mistakes, we admit them.”

We? Although in this instance the president presumably was not employing the “royal we” (“Pronoun used by royalty to indicate that they represent both the body natural and the body politic,” although, as here, he has been accused of doing so), it  nevertheless takes a galling display of chutzpah for this president to say with a straight face that “when we make mistakes, we admit them.”

He freely admits the mistakes of others — especially if they’re named Bush or Cheney — but if you made a fist and then held up one finger (or thumb) for each major mistake of his own administration that he’s admitted (gun running to Mexican bandits; Benghazi; IRS penalizing his political enemies; if you like your doctor; etc.)… your fist would remain closed. And there is something even more perverse about the current torture admission (of the mistakes of others, that he has regally corrected), inasmuch as his own State Department and intelligence services have informed him that the admission is likely to lead to violence against Americans.

Sometimes it seems as though he just doesn’t like Americans very much, except for the ones who came here illegally.

Say What?
