Guilt Trip Fit For A King?

The Rev. Peter Johnson of Dallas, described here as an “M.L. King ally,” says the King Holiday is “an insult.” (HatTip to Drudge)

“We have ignored the essence of his life and the horror of his death,” said Johnson. “We’ve allowed white America to escape the guilt of his assassination and we’ve allowed black America to drift back into a coma.”

So, a “King ally” thinks “white America” is guilty of assassinating King. That’s unifying and uplifting. (I wonder if he believes “black America” is guilty of assassinating Malcolm.)

How, then, should we atone for this guilt?

We remember him with parades and galas and banquets, things that are really irrelevant and silly regarding Dr. King’s legacy,” he said. “If we really want to honor Dr. King, we should do something about people who live under bridges. That would be a great tribute.”

Here’s a suggestion. Yesterday (here) I noted that businesses spend $200 million to $300 million a year on “diversity training” that generally doesn’t work and often is counter-productive. I will be happy to join Rev. Johnson, as a small first step, in urging business to cease and desist with the “diversity training” and divert all that money to homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and job training.

That should clean out a number of bridges. Rev. Johnson, where are you?

very few people live under bridges here. Those who do are crazy people who cannot endure or cannot be endured in any shelter. We could do like in the old days and lock them up. But liberals stopped that and now people have the “right” to live under bridges. as for “allowing” white people to escape guilt, we did not allow it. we always remind them they are guilty. if they escaped, they did it on their own

“We’ve allowed white America to escape the guilt of [MLK’s]assassination …”

Did we allow Arab America to escape the guilt of RFK’s assassination?
