I bet you didn’t know that Bush’s war is the reason we have so many illegal immigrants.
Carlos Montes, director of Latinos Against the War, explains the heretofore unseen connection:
A lot of people don’t see the link,” Montes explains. Making the connection between the Iraq war and the mass movement of people is one way he is trying to stir the Hispanic community to speak out against the conflict, he says….
Montes makes this link between immigration and war:
U.S. foreign policy, whether it’s war or free trade or other matters, leads to globalization, which leads to poverty and unemployment in other countries, which results in mass migration and more undocumented immigrants coming to the United States.
He’s right. A lot of people don’t see that link. I’m one of them. And, silly me, I also always thought that “progressive” movements always objected to blaming the victim….
It’s like that Sam Adams beer commercial.
Brilliant!
War and free trade are now on equal footing.
He’s right, though. Almsot everything wrong with the world is George Bush’s fault. And what isn’t Bush’s fault is because the Israelis won’t withdraw from the West Bank.
I love this guys logic!
1. There are few hispanic anti-war protesters
2. there are few hispanic anti-war-organisations
3. in other anti-war-organisations there are few hispanics and also
4. few hispanics in leadership positions.
This is due to:
5. many hispanics entering the forces because of
6. agressive affirmative action which leads to
7. many young hispanics not interested in protesting against the war and the armed forces.
The reason for all this is quickly identified: bias in white anti-war protesters as well as the language barrier because some folks still refuse to learn spanish. I just wonder why these obvously very intelligent young hispanics have not taken the final step in their argumentation… because if affirmative action programs in the services were dropped then fewer hispanics would be lured into lucrative contracts and could use their spare time to protest against the war…
Beyond that, the “war causes suffering in middle east causes mexicans to overstay visas and sneak across border” connection is a stroke of genius. I bet Al Gore will write a book about this one day…
