More Missouri Misconduct

On several occasions I have discussed the dramatically duplicitous attempt of Robin Carnahan, Missouri’s Democratic Secretary of State, to defeat the Missouri Civil Rights Initiative by rewriting it into oblivion. (See here and here.)

Now’s she’s at it again, this time eviscerating by rewrite a proposed initiative on stem cell research.

I have not stated, because I do not have, a position on the debate over stem cell research (other than to say that I have a strong inclination to oppose any ban on any research undertaken by responsible researchers), but the Associated Press article linked above convinces me that Carnahan has acted as duplicitously on this issue as she did on the civil rights initiative.

From the point of view of those backing either initiative, the good news is that she, a rising Democratic politician presumably in touch with sentiment in her state, obviously fears that Missouri voters would pass both amendments if they were fairly and accurately represented on the ballot.

Say What?

The Carnahans have a nasty track record when it comes to initiatives and duplicity. I recall that years back, when pro-gun Proposal B on the ballot fell victim to apparent ballot fraud, her husband (Then Governor) managed to block any legal recourse by refusing to either certify OR decertify the election result, (And doing one or the other within 30 days of the election was manditory, his failure was criminal.) Missouri law only permitting the outcome of an election to be challenged after one of those two actions had taken place.
