Brown Co-Counsel Supports Quotas
According to this report, Jack Greenberg, the long-time official with the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund who argued Brown with Thurgood Marshall, supports quotas. In an interview, he is reported to have said that
we would do well to embrace India’s quota-system approach, which designates seats to castes that have been historically discriminated against.I have discussed India’s quotas for what it terms its “backward classes” here, here, and here.
In India, however, as the second post linked above points out, the Indian Supreme Court supported quotas as the only way of restricting or reining in affirmative action that, without quotas, “results in reverse discrimination.”
That is a far cry from what Greenberg and Marshall argued for in Brown, and elsewhere.
Say What?
I believe there are also quotas in Iraq and Afghanistan.
