Another Competitor For The Wackiest Anti-Equality Argument

Not to be outdone by women leaders who claim all women will be dragged back to caves by their hair if the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative (MCRI) passes, a group of Western Michigan Chambers of Commerce have chimed in, arguing that passage of MCRI would not only darken the future of Michigan but the present as well.

“If you pass Proposal 2, you can turn off the lights in Michigan,” said Bing Goel, chairman of the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce and floral business owner. “We have to create a culture that embraces all.”

Bing himself is apparently already in the dark, since he didn’t explain how giving state preferences to some based on their race or ethnicity contributes to a culture that “embraces all.”

But wait; there’s more:

Goel and Muskegon chamber chairman Gary Post pointed to the Michigan Future Inc. report on an “agenda for a new Michigan” that argues that one of the most important steps the state can take to create a vibrant new economy is to be welcoming of all. The young knowledged-based workers of today embrace diversity and want to live in communities of citizens with a wide range of age, ethnic and racial makeup, the chamber leaders said.

West Michigan must be more open to different communities, Goel told the Muskegon chamber audience.

“One of the things about West Michigan, about Grand Rapids, is that we are not bad people … but we tend to stay in our own worlds,” Goel said. “The largest area of new business growth are those owned by women and racial minorities. The No. 1 key is access. West Michigan must recognize that.”

Welcoming? So, West Michigan won’t be “welcoming” of “all” unless some are made to feel more welcome than others by state preferences based on their membership in favored racial or ethnic groups? Do the West Michigan “welcome wagons” now have fine print, or print that is not so fine, saying, “Blacks, Hispanics, Women: Welcome to West Michigan! Whites, Asians, Europeans, Arabs, Indians, Pakistanis, etc., enter at your own risk”?

My mind, such as it is, continues to be boggled by the argument that any energetic, educated, industrious citizens will not feel “welcome” unless they can count on being treated better than others because of their race or ethnicity.

Riiiight. So these guys spend a lot of time talking to “young knowledged-based workers of today” about their racial and ethnic needs, do they?

We must turn back to the days of the 1950s, when the white man was “embraced”, and the white people had “access”. These MCRI opponents are right! Racial preferences are OK with me and my friends. We officialy urge a NO vote on MCRI!

    Dear Federal Dog,

Of COURSE people in Michigan want to live in “diverse” communities. That’s why all the people in the lily-white suburbs around Detroit are all moving in to the “diverse” city of Detroit.

(sarcasm off) Oh, wait, Detroit is losing population, white people avoid it like the plauge, due to the staggeringly high crime rate and abysmal public schools that are caused by the wonderful “diversity”. I’ll bet that at least 95% of the leaders of “No on MCRI” who worship “diversity” live in the suburbs to get AWAY from the “diversity” they claim to love so much.

Actually people want to live in places they find agreeable. They often don’t since life intervenes.

When you hear phrases like the quote you are dealing with romantics or delusion.

What sounds so morally good and utopian simply must be.

How are the knowledge-based workers of Japan, Korea, China, India, etc. enduring a life not at all like that. Are they turning out the lights?

We would also like to support Cobra and the idea of “affirmative action”. See the link below! We are united with Cobra in agreement that the MCRI MUST be stopped!
