Today what purports to be a news article in the Lansing State Journal quotes approvingly, and without contradiction or even qualification, the explanation given by a 15 year old pro-preference protester for why she opposes the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, which would ban state preferences based on race, sex, or ethnicity:
Ellen Gaffney of Dearborn may be only 15, but she knows why she supports affirmative action.
A volleyball enthusiast and fan of both Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, Ellen said there would be no women’s college sports without affirmative action.
Since newspaper reporters don’t know any better than this (or are keeping quiet if they do), it’s not surprising that 15 year olds are so uninformed.

she was assigned this “quotable” idea?
