Affirmative Action In The Ball Park

The New York Mets are building a new stadium. They have adopted an “affirmative action” plan to ensure that no minority firms are excluded from participating.

The Mets have created a Minority and Woman-Owned Business Enterprise, a company commitment to ensuring that all contractors and subcontractors are not chosen on the grounds of race or gender. “The Mets agree, as an element of the performance of its new ballpark project in Queens, to take all necessary and reasonable affirmative action steps to assure that Queens- and all New York City-based minority group members and women are provided equal opportunity to compete for and perform contracts for construction work, construction-related goods and supplies and professional services,” the team said in a statement.

This policy is a good example of the kind of “affirmative action” that was intended by the two presidential executive orders implementing it and that would not only be allowed but encouraged by the Michigan Civil Rights Inititative,” despite the claims of that MCRI would ban all affirmative action.

Will those who believe that non-discriminatory equal treatment is racist now criticize the Mets for adopting a racist policy? If not, why not?

    Quotas have been mandated on the basis of language identical to this, so I am assuming that this is yet more flowery sounding justification for a quota program. I’ll be interested in how they end up awarding contracts – i.e., will they stiff white male low-bid contractors to give contracts to favored minorities?

    John, you must be dellusional! This is all about hiring women and minority firms solely based on race and sex, otherwise, no one would label themselves a “monority” or “women-owned” firm! Laughable.

    Since I am an engineer and work with this situation all the time, I can guarantee you that these firms will do terrible work, or be given work to do that is so simple that it is unscrew-uppable. Still its totally wrong. These firms suck.

    Continue to believe in your delusions of a race-neutral society. Once AA is done away with, we all know the minorities will drop off the table. White guys will hire other white guys, etc. That’s just the way the world works. Old boy network. But at least in that system, you have to come through and do a good job. Or else, why have you in the network?

    The alternative to this is to allow minorities to be given work which they screw up at over and over again, and then let THEM form anti-white old boy networks that openly discriminate against you. Along with open borders. Suicide, by slow degrees.

    There is no such thing as a meritocracy, at least at the top, amongst the big players. For workers, sure, but not at the top. Its all about relationships and always has been and always will be. This wouldn’t be such a problem for minorities if they were competent. Then they could form their own networks, and get things done in their own communities. But they can’t.

    MCRI will be passed, and then be circumvented, just like in CA and WA. The politicians break the law now! Adding another law won’t do any good! Why can’t you seee that? The politiicians buy minority votes with your tax money. They will never give whites a fair shake, beecause whites don’t vote for their own racial interests. They split their vote. Therefore, they exist to be milked and lied to.

    Only when whites pool their economic resources and their votes will AA die. Then it will be up to individuals to make discrimnations, as they should, and the government will be out of the discrimination business. But it won’t be color blind. That’s a fantasy. Its either you or them. That’s just how it works in life. I believe you are older? Why don’t you know that by now?
