Republican Inanity

I’ve argued here too many times to cite that the arguments in support of racial preferences, and opposed to the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, are all too often either disingenuous or dishonest.

Most of these arguments come from Democrats, but the Republican leadership in Michigan is just as bad. In fact, it’s hard even for Democrats to match the inanity of this recent comment from Dick DeVos, Republican candidate for governor:

Until I feel comfortable with the system we have in place today, I will support affirmative action. If the MCRI passes, the students would not be able to compete through no fault of our own. It would be a tragedy.

With Republicans like this, who needs Democrats?

    Dick DeVos writes:

    >>>”Until I feel comfortable with the system we have in place today, I will support affirmative action.”

Is your argument that you ARE comfortable with the system we have in place today?

Since “the system we have in place today,” affirmative action, relies institutionalizes racial discrimination, I’m of course not happy with it.

Indeed, one of the several ways DeVos’s comment is inane is that what he said amounts to saying, “Until I’m comfortable with racial preferences, I will continue to support racial preferences.”

Geez, with logic like that the man might as well be a Democrat.

    Cobra,

The point is we will never change anything if we wait until everyone “feels comfortable” with the present.

    John,

Other than this waffling brought upon by on high, DeVos is a good Republican. I endorse him despite this, although this is major.
