Affirmative Action In The Affirmative Action Office (Or Not)

In Gainesville, Fla., a federal lawsuit brought against the city by a former Gainesville affirmative action officer moves closer to trial.

Now permanently living in the United States, [Steve] Malu was born in Nigeria. At the time he applied for the [Affirmative Action] director’s position in 2002, he had a pending discrimination lawsuit in state court against the city over his termination from his position as an affirmative action officer. He claimed he had experienced discrimination and a hostile work environment because of his race and national origin. A judgment later was entered in favor of the city in that case.

It’s probably a good thing for affirmative action offices to be on the receiving end of lawsuits like this from time to time.
