Helen Thomas Urges Democrats To Flee The Mainstream

Democrats are fond of accusing Republican judicial nominees of being “out of the mainstream,” but now comes the venerable Helen Thomas who berates “timid,” “cowardly,” “me-too” Democrats for “tiptoeing around the major issues facing our nation, afraid to venture out of the mainstream.”

Our mainstream must be so muddy and meander so much that even “moderate” Democrats as well as the Murthas have trouble figuring out where it is. In any event, we all wait with baited breath to see if the “Cowardly Lion” Democrats — Thomas quotes him from the Wizard of Oz:

“Life is sad, believe me Missy,

“When you’re born to be a sissy…

— receive the “courage transplant” Thomas recommends by next month. If they do, they will all “venture out of the mainstream” and try to block Judge Alito’s nomination … because he’s too far “out of the mainstream.”

I’m thinking the Democrats are about to suffer a rude awakening about what exactly the mainstream happens to be in America. The PC halls have begun to crumble over Christmas at the moment. I can’t wait to see what this backlash against “tolerance” brings in ’06.

“I can’t wait to see what this backlash against “tolerance” brings in ’06.”

Nothing, I bet. Democratic voters don’t care about that, or about the inconsistency of Party positions on different issues. They care that their piece of the agenda is being pushed or defended.
