Canadians Relent

Several days ago Fred Ray brought to my attention, and I to yours, that a Candian government agency had announced it was refusing to hire white men (North of the Border … And Around the Bend).

Now Fred notices that, apparently having gotten caught at it, they’ve backed down:

Ottawa rescinds hiring ban on able-bodied white men

Deputy Minister apologizes for Public Works edict

A federal government department has cancelled a three-day-old edict that essentially banned the hiring of able-bodied white men over the next several months….

I think Fred captures the likely thought behind this change perfectly: “we were misunderstood. Guess we’ll have to go back to ‘goals.'”

“Ottawa rescinds hiring ban on able-bodied white men

The proper approach was to wait 300 years for this and then all claim that equality was achieved.

But Actus, what moral justification is there for racial preference in Canada, where there was no racial slavery system for 300 years and where the country accepted blacks as the terminal point of the underground railroad?

And aren’t the Canadians more enlightened than U.S. Americans in their racial predilections? There isn’t the kind of “de facto” segregation there, is there?

Oh, damn, “diversity” applies everywhere, in every time. Brilliant. I need a Guinness, like in that commercial, where the cartoon characters invent brilliant ideas over a Guinness. Brilliant.

I have no idea what teh moral justification is. Just that if we have 300 years of repression, when we do lift it we can all pat ourselves on the back for being good liberals achieving equality.

    I don’t know.
