The Presidents Have A Party …

… and much more often than not it’s Democrat.

The Chronicle of Higher Education reports today that twice as many college presidents voted for John Kerry than George Bush.

That would seem to put them out of sync both with their faculties, who are much more overwhelmingly Democratic, and with the general public, which is evenly divided, and probably with many of their large donors (if they have any), several of whom may be Republican.

I’m surprised also. So I guess an explanation is that even an overwhelmingly Democratic group could not tolerate ‘Hanoi Kerry’ posturing as a VC hunter or his many other flipflops.

I say that because I find it difficult to believe that speech codes and ‘verbal harassment’ codes, let alone racial discrimination, would be as prevalent as they are if a third of university presidents were conservatives.
