Ah, What Might Have Been…

The Democratic disappointment that Patrick Fitzgerald did not expose and indict a White House conspiracy to break the law is palpable, and easy to spot in the mainstream media.

I’m not sure it’s worthwhile continuing to quote these transparent biases, but this description in Newsweek, by Howard Fineman and Richard Wolffe, of Fitzgerald’s indictment of Libby is too precious to pass up:

… that I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, the vice president’s right-hand man, had lied repeatedly under oath about what might well have been a White House effort to vindictively tip reporters about the identity of a CIA agent whose husband was a critic of the Iraq war.

And the moon might well be made of green cheese, but there’s still no evidence that it is….

    John,

Would the “Republican reaction” be one of approval, noting that some person(s) may have gotten away with destroying a CIA front company designed to infiltrate nuclear weapons and materials transfers between middle eastern countries and groups?

It comes down to the question of whether we as Americans place party loyalty above national security…yet again.

This is a dead issue for democrats because most people don’t understand it and don’t care about it.

    Anita,

First of all, that’s more of an indictment of the ignorance of the American people. Most people on the street couldn’t tell you what Watergate, Iran/Contra or the Whitewater investigations were about either. That doesn’t make these issues any less important.

Especially in light of this case, where this nation was sold a bill of goods on weapons of mass destruction being in the “wrong hands”, ironically, Valerie Plame was a Non-Official Cover CIA Operative specializing in keeping weapons of mass destruction from being in the “wrong hands.”

    Truth is stranger than fiction.
