Affirmative Action Officer Fired

Madison (Wisconsin) Area Technical College affirmative action officer Eugene Fujimoto claims he was fired (so far he has only been suspended from his AA duties) “as a result of [his] outspokenness regarding diversity issues and affirmative action goals.”

A MATC spokeswoman said that Fujimoto’s leave “had nothing to do with diversity numbers.” Regarding those numbers:

The college recently passed its five-year diversity plan, and the MATC district board discussed the plan at its Sept. 29 meeting. The plan specifies that the college needs to hire 43 more minority faculty members to meet the state’s standard. The college counted 31 minority members of its faculty out of 393 full-time faculty.

It’s a good thing there are no quotas, only a “standard,” in Wisconsin.

AFTERTHOUGHT

I wonder if Fujimoto counts as a minority. If he’s ultimately fired, will MATC then need to hire 44 more minority faculty members to meet its quota standard?

Say What?
