I’d like to hear that the president is going to maintain balance, that you have a very evenly divided court…. And I hope that we’ll have somebody who is modest, like Judge Roberts says he is, and someone who will promote stability so there are no sharp turns….
Senator Leahy
I would hope that … we could see the court have less 5-4 decisions, speak with more clarity.
I would say, for once, that I hope the president gives Sen. Leahy what he wants — a replacement for O’Connor that will result in fewer 5-4 decisions.
