Did Roberts Want To “Limit” Voting Rights “Protections”?

As far as I can tell, there are only two things wrong with the headline of Joan Biskupic’s and Toni Locy’s article in today’s USA Today: “Roberts joined effort to limit voting protections in ’80s.”

1. Opposing a dramatic redefinition and expansion of voting rights is not an effort to “limit” voting rights.

2. Granting selected minority groups the right to have specially created districts in order to implement their new right to elect representatives of their choice is not a “protection” of voting rights or voters from discrimination.

It appears that you haven’t mastered your Democratspeak yet. For example, don’t you know that a decrease in the rate of increase of spending on a government program is a cut in spending.

Richard, your point is reminiscent of the Reagan-era debates.

I’d note that the alleged “expansion of voting rights” is unlike budgets. Redefinition is the better word, because its hard to say whether, whose, and the net effect of the VR changes are. Of course, your right in that this is how the issue was framed
