Jesse Jackson And Dave Chappelle

A reader has alerted me to a recent article by Tom Elliott, an editor of the New York Sun editorial page, that has perceptive things to say contrasting the comedy (black comedy?) of current black leadership with the seriousness of some current black comedy.

Say What? (4)

It’s an interesting article, and I agree with some of it. Chappelle does indeed get more interesting musical groups.

His act, however, does grow very tiresome. It can be summarized as follows: “I can say whatever I want and you can’t stop me because I’m black.”

This is certainly true. When can the rest of us speak the truth?

Stephen: When all those who have suffered under Jim Crow have gone to their reward, have become accustomed or are so far gone that they no longer care. Until then politeness and consideration for the pain some may be caused should cause all except the uncaring to guard their conduct and expressions out of human respect. Humor is based on fear and is only the frontier of tolerance. Black comedians are only the harbingers of the freedom you seek. When society is accepting of white comedians doing the same thing the next step will be the rest of us.

I agree…because they keep showing the same episodes over and over again! Come on, Dave, make some more. And until then, Comedy Central, quit overexposing the property by showing episodes every night. (Speak of the devil – my wife just turned on the television and there’s Dave Chappelle.)

The problems with Chappelle and other black comedians is that they can make all of the racist jokes that they want and whites and suppose to sit on their hands and accept it.

Do people not understand that the racist views taken by black comedians are repeated in the echo chamber of black American and made acceptable? If insulting whites is acceptable for black entertainers (whereas white comedians cannot even get near a black joke), then is becomes OK for black teachers to insult white students, black politicians to insult white constituents, black college students to insult white students, black employees to insult white co-workers and custoemers.

Would the movie “Hitch” have been funnier is Will Smith acted the ladies man (a near racist stereotype) while also speaking with a black dialect and misusing the English language and being oblivious to current events to give an counter balance to the white slurs?
