“Holistic Review”: Texas Talk For “Affirmative Action”

The Daily Texan give this advice to University of Texas president Larry Faulkner on how to talk about affirmative action:

ince last year’s address, the term “affirmative action,” with its definitive connotations and implications, has been replaced with “holistic review,” a this-is-really-affirmative-action-but-I-don’t-want-you-and-your-conservative-friends-to-know-or-else-you-may-still-successfully-sue-us term.

Faulkner should talk frankly about affirmative action and the strides the University is making to target and admit more black, Native American and Hispanic students.

But as long as we’re talking frankly, why not call “affirmative action” what it really is: racial preference?

Must be getting desperate when you have to replace one euphemism with another euphemism.

I’m doing a research paper for my government class on affirmative action (I oppose it), and came across this blog. I couldn’t agree with your statement more about racial preference. It’s just REVERSE discrimination. In my opinion people in favor of affirmative action don’t want equality, they want special treatment; a chance to cheat in the “race”, not catch up.
