“Racism” At The University Of Washington? A Half-Baked Charge

More than 20 students appeared before the Board of Regents of the University of Washington charging pervasive racism. A statement presented by two members of an organization called Minority Think Tank charged that “racism was institutionalized in the curriculum, ignored by administrators and practiced by both students and faculty members.”

Evidence?

The students used the College Republicans’ Oct. 8 affirmative-action bake sale as their primary example of racism on campus, as well as the risk of the African studies program being cut.

“[The bake sale] made people of color feel like they were a fraction of a person,” [MTT member Sumona] Das Gupta said, holding up a poster from the event.

But they’re right, you know — there is institutional racism, just as the bake sale pointed out. When you’re held up to a fraction of the standards, I can see feeling like a fraction of a person.

What’s so amusing about this is the irony that pervades all such political stagings… they just don’t realize how right they are….

It is unfortunate that it requires a bake sale for these students to be able to see to the heart of affirmative action. But if that is what it takes, then by all means let’s have many more.

I bet they wouldn’t complain if they only had to pay half the tuition of white kids. No, they’d certainly not complain that THAT was racist, would they?

Hmm… I wonder if the high schools that the college Republicans came from ever had trouble purchasing books for their students, or having enough money to pay teachers to instruct their students.

I wonder what percentage of students from their high schools got to attend college. And then I take a look at the percentage of African-Americans who get to go to college, and I wonder. I just wonder.

I am Pargeet Singh from Plymouth, Michigan. I want to say that I think these people are all whiners. The real racism is reverse racism against whites. I voted Romney because Barack Obama is an affirmative action president. He’s only for the blacks.
