Clueless Quote

An article in today’s Los Angeles Times on the dramatic decline of the Democrats in Kentucky (example: from 5–1 majority in state senate in 1988 to 16–21 minority today) quotes Paul Blanchard, formerly of the Center for Kentucky History and Politics at Eastern Kentucky University, on President Bush’s popularity:

Nothing he does with the economy or in Iraq seems to diminish his popularity here.

Imagine that! Those wacky Kentuckians like the president even though he removed a threat to us by liberating Iraq from a tyrannical dictator and the economy is recovering at record speed!

If Prof. Blanchard is a good example of the Kentucky Democrats’ in-state intellectuals, one can easily understand why they’re losing their grip.

Well, since McAuliff asserts that all Democrats are united by “a visceral hatred of Bush”, it is likely unfathomable to them why people would support such a “monster”. After all, Bush is single-handedly trying to return us to the bad old days of 1920s limited government and make us a hiss and a byword among all right-thinking people in the world. Why won’t he just pose for photo ops and leave the hard work to smart foreigners? seems to be the wail from the left. I am heartily sick of it.
