Gun Quiz (WaPo, Dems Fail)

Jessie just took the Graduate Record Exam (she did very well, thank you; now that they’re computerized, you get you score walking out the door), and, no doubt vicariously, I’ve had tests on my mind. So, people, taking out your Number 2 pencil and paper; we’re going to have a short test.

Read the following passage from a Washington Post article by Dan Balz carefully.

The latest turn in the battle among the Democrats started over guns, specifically over a questionnaire from the NRA that Dean signed, while running for reelection in 1992, saying that he was opposed to a ban on semiautomatic weapons.

On Friday, Kerry used a pheasant-hunting expedition in Iowa to attack Dean directly. He said that while he and other Democrats were fighting to pass the ban on assault weapons, Dean was siding with the NRA. Congress approved the ban in 1994.

Dean says he supports the federal ban on assault weapons, although he received the support of the NRA while he was governor because he generally opposed restrictions on guns.

1. Who believes “semiautomatic weapons” and “assault weapons” are synonymous? A) Dan Balz; B) Howard Dean; C) John Kerry; D) All the above?

2. Does John Kerry favor banning all semiautomatic weapons? Does Howard Dean?

I haven’t looked up the numbers, but as I recall there are somewhere around 200 million handguns, rifles, and shotguns in private hands in the United States. I bet at least half of these, maybe more, are semi-automatics. If Dean and Kerry favor banning semi-automatics, I’m sure there are a bunch of voters who would like to know.

But how could they know, when writers in our major newspapers use “assault rifle” and “semi-automatic” interchangeably?

Who cares? That’s why those of us who posses such awful, evil assault weapons don’t trust any of ’em. They don’t care, they’re for banning anything that they think will get them elected.

My opposition to these idiots doesn’t depend one exactly what they want to ban; it’s the banning impuse itself that’s objectionable.

    Pick Me! Pick Me!

Here’s a quiz on guns for you to take. He didn’t say study groups aren’t allowed, so feel free to talk about your answers.

its people who are scared of guns that ban the automated guns…. there are also other reasons why people wanted it banned like the LA bank robbery…. whats wrong with owning a semi-auto weapon…the problem is some of the guns are owned illegaly and with power like that can cause serious danger….but hey…your lucky their not full auto weapons in the US or we would all be fucked….my point is its a half good half bad problem…good for safety and pussy ass people who want to ban everything to steak knifes…bad thing is now the sporting of weapons is not fun anymore and a lot of production in weapons has decreased and so forth.
