Indiana University Official Defends Free Speech! (Unless You’re Talking About Race)

Better bloggers than I have been all over the case of Indiana University’s effort to shut down the blog of a professor who posted disparaging comments about gays (they shouldn’t teach, for example, because they’re more likely to be child molesters). See, among others, Erin O’Connor’s posts here and here and Eugene Volokh’s here.

So I figured I didn’t have to say anything. Now, thanks to Nick Blesch, there’s much more I don’t have to say — because he’s said it, and in fine style. Without further hesitation go check out his chapter-and-verse exposition of double standards defended by Indiana University’s Vice President for Student Development and Diversity. Slandering gays is, apparently, protected First Amendment speech, the price we pay for living in a democratic society etc., but skepticism about reparations for slavery? That’s beyond the pale.

Say What?
