Best Of The “Best Of The Web Today”

James Taranto’s Best of the Web Today hits two slow “diversity” pitches out of the park today.

First, he deftly demolishes an insipid, even faintly OpEd in USA Today by one John C. Tucker, who complains that his education as a member of the nearly all-white class of 1958 at the University of Michigan law school ill-prepared him to defend black and Hispanics accused of crime.

“Think about what Tucker is saying,” says Taranto:

that if he had gone to school with black law students, he would have had a better understanding of black criminal defendants. This is bigotry posing as liberal enlightenment. Why would anyone assume black law students and black street criminals have anything in common aside from the color of their skin?

Indeed. Taranto then follows with a send-up of absurd diversity-mongering at the University of California at Riverside in the form of requiring politically correct representation in a new mural.

Say What?
