The Cavalier Daily On War And Peace

UVa’s student newspaper published an editorial this morning endorsing the anti-war cause. I will not argue with the argument, but I do think you’ll be interested in the second paragraph, which follows in its entirety:

The president still has not explained the case for war to the American people. If we are going to defy the United Nations and send hundreds of thousands of American men and women to fight a country which is not a direct or immediate threat to the United States.

The case for going to war was that Saddam violated the treaty. Many times. He and his ilk have been protected by the “rules” for decades.

Sometimes, there is no intellectual argument for eliminating vermin.

We’ve since exposed the torture rooms, stockpiles of weapons, some chemical evidence for wmd’s, etc. And, make no mistake, we have not invented any convenient evidence.

We have not gone about this dishonorably.

The UN chose to look the other way and follow its anemic path to impotence.

We chose to honor our commitment to the UN resolutions.

Those who would dedicate themselves to making the world unsafe will know the wrath of the eagle.

God bless our troops and keep them safe.
