Ohio To Reconsider Rejection Of 14th Amendment

According to an interesting column in today’s Cincinatti Enquirer, Ohio is about to reconsider its 1868 rejection of the 14th Amendment. (Link via Howard Bashman)

I’ve just sent the following letter to the columnist:

Your column today on Ohio’s reconsideration of its opposition to the 14th Amendment was fascinating….

As you know, one of the enduring civil rights questions is whether the 14th Amendment outlaws all discrimination based on race or, on the other hand, tolerates some racial discrimination, such as to produce diversity. The Supreme Court will have something to say about that when it decides the Michigan affirmative action cases this term.

Perhaps you might consider raising this issue in another column, so that Ohio legislators can more fully consider what exactly it is they might be, belatedly, approving.

Best wishes,

John Rosenberg

I too sent here an email inviting her, if she had the courage, to investigate the events and circumstances surrounding the ratification and to report on her findings. I suspect no such report will be forthcoming.
