Yet Another Kind Of Diversity

Here’s an argument for yet another measure of diversity, and this one is from inside the University of Michigan, at a forum on “minority female stereotypes.”

Holding a platinum blond Barbie doll, clinical psychologist Stacey Pearson of Counseling and Psychological Services said the doll is one way in which American society perpetuates the idea that “the standard of beauty is white and it doesn’t leave room for the diversity of sizes.”

    Black and Hispanic Barbies were introduced way back in 1980. As for her, um, proportions, well, how realistic is Raggedy Anne? (Cue the Showmen, “39-21-40 Shape”.)
