The AAAA Opposes Discrimination On The Basis Of Anything. Really.

The American Association for Affirmative Action, “the association of professionals managing affirmative action, equal opportunity, diversity and other human resource programs,” opposes discrimination based on … anything at all.

Founded in 1974, the American Association for Affirmative Action (AAAA) is dedicated to the advancement of affirmative action, equal opportunity and the elimination of discrimination on the basis of race, gender, ethnic background or any other criterion that deprives people of opportunities to live and work.

Great. We’ve got Trent Lott, the next Senate Majority Leader, pining for Jim Crow and you’re busy nitpicking AA.

“I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had of followed our lead we wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years, either.”

Jim – I’m no fan of Strom Thurmond and am not particularly impressed (an understatement) with Trent Lott. Still, I’m disappointed you think I’m only “nitpicking” affirmative action. I had hoped I was doing much more damage to it.

That’s kind of reminiscent of Tom Lehrer’s line about the U.S. Army having taken the American democratic ideal to its logical conclusion by prohibiting discrimination not only on the basis of race, creed, or color, but also on the grounds of ability.

(OK, it’s funnier the way Lehrer says it.)
