Lott Grovels

Demonstrating his character and showcasing his (new) convictions, Lott told BET television tonight that he’s had a change of heard … and now supports affirmative action. Evidence? He’s hired African-Americans. I’m not making this up:

As majority leader I can move an agenda that would hopefully be helpful to African Americans and minorities of all kinds and all Americans.

….

Lott announced that he has changed his mind about making Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday a federal holiday

Do you find it ironic that Lott appeared on BET to apologize for his views on segregation? I realize that BET is voluntary segregation, but still, it makes my head spin.

    Say anything…

This is just ugly. It’s all the uglier because Sen. Trent Lott claims now to support policies he still doesn’t

You know, that’s a lot more than a lot of champions of civil Rights have done. I believe Sen. Kennedy has no black staffers or had none until it was disclosed that he had none.

I’m very surprised about Kennedy, but I’ll point out that Lott (as Majority Leader) has MORE staffers. Lott also has a larger pool of black constituents to draw from, although, I suppose, this is cancelled out by how few could honestly claim to have supported him.
