Zell Miller On “The Latest Democratic Debacle”

Zell Miller may be the last white Democratic officeholder in Georgia. Anyone looking for a Democrat whose analysis of the election returns goes beyond the fashionable “communication problems” should look at his remarks in the Washington Post today. Really, you should.

Here’s an appetizer, but you need to enjoy the whole meal:

We’ve got the left turn signal on and we’re headed down another rabbit hole to political oblivion.

Maybe this would be a good time for him to hop over to the other side of aisle.

I disagree. If all centrist-right Democrats jump ship to the Republican aisle based on opportunism of the moment, no one will be left to steer the ship back on course once it’s in the hands of the far-lefties, which will in turn eventually marginalize that party. ‘Course I know you meant that in jest…

Nah. Zell needs to stay where he is, for all kinds of reasons.

Also, he frankly enjoys more time in the limelight this way. Which I don’t suggest is his only reason, but he’d probably be kidding himself if he didn’t admit that he enjoys being “the voice of the sane Democrat.”
